Common Name: The Burnt Spot Oncidium

Distribution & Occurrence:

Tropical and rain forests of Mexico, Central America & Venezuela @ sea level to 1000 meters

The Plant

Giant sized hot to warm growing epiphyte with compressed & oblong pseudobulbs.
Blooms once a year in spring with long, pendulous, short-branched inflorescence. The inflorescence takes almost 3-4 months to develop fully.


Cultural Requirements and Nutrition

A very hardy & robust growing species. Grow in bright light and species can take full sun. Water and fertilize all through the year

I Grow it a in a big size pot with bark and charcoal.

Dendrobium crumenatum

Dendrobium crumenatum Swartz 1799 SECTION Crumenata

Common Name: The Purse-Shaped Dendrobium, Pigeon Orchid, thunderstorm orchid

Boiled juice of the fruit is used for treatment of ear ache in Java island. Flowers are grounded to make a mixture for treatment of cholera

Distribution & Occurrence:

Found very commonly in South East Asia in deciduous and semi deciduous forest from sea level to 500 meters

The Plant

Small to large sized, hot to warm growing epiphyte with basally swollen nodes that are ridged and almost purplish yellow in color. Canes are deciduous in nature but continue to bloom from older canes

Flowers multiple times in a year. Flowering is triggered by a sudden drop in temperature (10 degree C) (typically after a rains). Blooms after 9 days of rain. Larger plants profusely flower with fragrant but short-lived flowers

Cultural Requirements and Nutrition

Grow in out doors and in direct sun. water and fertilize all around the year.

Prefers to be mounted as the leaves can freely hang and reduce the change of crown rot

Common Name: bundled eria

Distribution & Occurrence:

Chinese side of Himalayas to Vietnam @ sea level to 600 meters in dry low land forests

The Plant

Miniature to small sized warm to cool growing epiphyte with ellipsoid to flask like clustered pseudobulbs

Flowers once year during spring and flowers last only a week

Cultural Requirements and Nutrition

Grow in bright light with humidity and all year around watering and fertilization. Allow medium to dry between watering.

Oncidium Golden Anniversary

Oncidium Golden Anniversary is a hybrid of Oncidium spacelatum x Oncidium Sarcatum registered in January 1979 by Corbet.
plant produces long sprays of flowers and flower size is slightly bigger compared to  Oncidium spacelatum
but the number of flowers in a branch are less

Common Name: The Small-Bearded Dendrobium

Extract obtained form pseudobulbs is administered orally to treat stomach-ache and improve digestion.

Distribution & Occurrence:

Found in south and south western India as a small to medium sized warm to cool growing epiphyte @ elevations of 1500 meters

The Plant

Small sized epiphyte with purplish brown pesudobulbs with a swollen base

Blooms in spring with a inflorescence arising from near the apex of the pseudobulbs carrying 10-15 flowers

Flowers once year during spring

Cultural Requirements and Nutrition

Water and fertilizer during active growth period and withhold watering and fertilization during winter.

Could be potted or mounted. I grow mine mounted on a piece of wood.
