Dendrobium gibsonii Paxton 1838 SECTION Holochrysa

Introduction

Common Name: Gibson's Dendrobium [English Orchid Collector 1800's]


Distribution & Occurrence:

Northeastern states of India to Malay Peninsula found at elevations of 650 meters to 1650 meters

The Plant

Large sized Dendrobium with canes upto 120 c.m. (4 feet in length) with centrally swollen and taper towards the tip. Grows in mossy limestone cliffs in natural habitat

Nodding cluster inflorescence appears at the tip of the leafless canes with 6-8 waxy yellow colored flowers with 2 rich brown spots on the throat.

Flowers once year during July-Aug and flower lasts 2 weeks


Cultural Requirements and Nutrition

Grow in high light but shaded from peak hour sun. water and fertilize during active growth and stop water and fertilizer during dormancy. Occasional spray of water in winter could help (2-3 weeks gap)
